Public Education Foundation of Moore County Creates Novel Fundraiser to Help Schools
August 28, 2009 -- The Public Education Foundation of Moore County (PEF-MC), a non-profit organization that has raised money for worthy school projects for more than 25 years, has created a novel fundraising idea to help the county’s schools that have suffered during the current recession. And, they would like all the residents of the county to join forces to help make the program a resounding success.

Traditional “back-to-school” time is quickly approaching, and based on state and county budget cuts, the schools in Moore County will have less funding than has been available for many years. As a result of the trying economic times, the foundation began looking for ways to raise money that would not require individuals to donate large sums of money. The result is their new fundraiser, named “Give a HIGH FIVE to Moore County Schools!”

The foundation is asking each resident to dig into purses and wallets and come up with a five dollar bill and donate it to the Public Education Foundation – in other words, each resident will be giving a “HIGH FIVE” to the schools.
Three advertisements will run in The Pilot August 26th, 28th, and 30th that will ask residents to make a little donation, and in so doing the foundation will be able to give a lot. As Andrew Lyons, president of the foundation, remarked, “If every individual in Moore County gave a “HIGH FIVE” to the schools by donating five dollars to the foundation, we would raise in excess of $400,000. Virtually all of the money raised from this effort will ultimately be donated to worthwhile educational projects developed by county teachers. While this certainly will not make up for the budget cuts that have been experienced by the schools, it will certainly help the county’s many creative teachers carry out the types of educational programs that we’ve worked hard to fund for 25 years.”
Please look for the special self-addressed envelope that will be included with the Sunday edition of The Pilot and send a “HIGH FIVE” to the schools. Thank you for investing in Moore County’s future -- by educating our children.
